[Dio holds up a hand at the end of Trip's long and emotional response. Dio ignores most of the emotion behind it. Panic and fear are only being brought about as a pathetic attempt to proclaim innocence, and whether Trip is entirely innocent or not is irrelevant to Dio. Despite his slip-up to a stranger, Trip does not actually pose a direct threat to Dio or his plans.]
[What is relevant is that someone — a he — knew enough to guess at Dio's identity from whatever the boy said and from there, they spoke ill of Dio enough to have given the boy significant reason to fear Dio beyond whatever reasons he'd managed to gather on his own from their chance encounter. Whoever it is could pose a threat.]
[Lowering his hand, Dio speaks.]
I believe you meant no harm. You had the opportunity to address me by name in full view of everyone, but you chose not to.
[Though if Dio had to guess, that was more motivated by fear than loyalty. But he's willing to allow the boy to save face for his thin lies, and in the end, the results are ultimately the same because he's come clean and now, Dio doesn't think he'll withhold much of anything from him.]
