[It's not exactly the introduction McCree was expecting to make - not that this whole thing is anything he would've expected to begin with - but after hassling people over poetry, it's time to get down to business.

And he definitely has the time to spare.]

So does this kind of shit happen here often? [He gestures with the lit cigar he's holding.] Just casual news posts about serial killers, rounded off with fancyass coffees?

[He pauses to take a drag, mulling it over. Maybe it's not his place, but something needs to be done.]

Is anyone else gonna hunt that bastard down, or am I gonna have to do it myself?

If I was in the business of making assumptions, I wouldn't be inquiring in the first place.

Hearsay doesn't interest me, either.

Okay.

But

We're never doing anything like that, okay? I am not down for that. When we find this person, we're taking them in and all teeth are remaining in their gums.

It's all in the name...the very rules of this world vary from section to section. Magic, for example - it's so difficult to work in Tomorrow, but flows freely in Sorcery, and has a acts in Laughter whichever way would be most absurd or ironic.

I don't see how "tomorrow" is defined by a lack of magic, a bit anti-mage on their parts. But "shadows"...

[She leaves that for him to conclude. Attempts to clean it up might be made, but how well would they work, in the long run?]

We can stop what we can, but I don't know it will ever end.

[The voice speaks in a deliberate, poetic tone. Crunching metal, revving engines, and frenzied screaming rise and fall in the background as if the speaker is walking past a terrible spectacle.]

Vigilante law
A crime drama unfolding
Count me in, cowboy

All right. You want to meet in Shadows?

Of the locations on the app, the church sounds like the safest bet.

Oh. Okay.

Look for a guy with black hair in a the KSU Vet School sweatshirt. I'll hang out near the side entrance just so we aren't too obvious.

Thirst for a good fight.
Unparalleled skill and aim.
I bring a badass.

[No such thing as too much poetry.]

What about you, though?
I am an Assassin.
You're just a cowboy.

[In his experience, people don't ask for permission to track down anyone or anything. If anything they ask others (like him) to do it for them. So who is this stranger with the silly hat and why does he think he should be in charge of anything, let alone of a hunt for a dangerous target?]

A question isn't the same as an assumption, McCree.

And you're a pretty interesting guy. There's a lot to be curious about.

[Ouch, McCree. She may not be able to hear your inner thoughts, but that's still damn cold.]

What makes you think there isn't any harm in "helping the process along"? Will someone who thinks so little of human life willingly face the consequences? Will they apologize? Promise to change their ways? Would you believe them?

[She turns her full focus to the camera and gives him an almost familial smile.]

The "process" may be slow but it ensures the criminal pays the due price. Confronting him - or her - suddenly and aggressively will almost certainly result in a scuffle. I've seen you shoot in the practice range, your aim is devastatingly impeccable. [She was never on missions with him - he was always on private assignments or different assignments than her. But she's seen everyone shoot in the range. She was required to practice with a pistol, though she never used it and was an awful shot anyway.] You know I'm not one for gambling but I wouldn't place my bet on anyone else's gun in a scuffle with you.

When I said replacement I meant a replacement for the flesh and bone it SHOULD be, Jesse. I'm usually in the Outpost, in Adventure. I can't promise I won't be on a call elsewhere but I'll try to only leave for emergencies until I can see you.

[When would a makara ever be okay?

He smiles hopeful at the initial reaction, then frowns as he is brought to think a little hard. He closes his eyes, breathing deep as he feels the world around him.]

I can tell the people apart, for no one feels exactly alike. I may trace who fears the murderer and how. Even if they fear themselves, it will not feel the same as if another was fearing them.

[His eyes blink open.] My range ain't so wide. I will still require searching alongside you, brother.
boundinblood: (Can I get a line in edgewise here?)

wow wtf happened to that sentence. That'll teach me to tag on five hours of sleep

[personal profile] boundinblood 2016-12-04 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
["Mage-hating" sounds more visceral. She'd prefer it, even, if it wasn't more clumsy on the tongue. It was definitely the more accurate descriptor.

Of course...there's nothing more mage-hating, anti-mage, or whatever you'd like to call it than implying that magic is just poorly understood science. In fact, she's never heard that one before! She'll get to the main point in a second - right now, she's bristled a little. There's being afraid and superstitious, and then there's saying she isn't what she is.]

Magic is magic. [She raises a hand and creates an orb of light in it to demonstrate.] Science and magic might indirectly inspire each other sometimes, but only mages can cast spells.
