You tried to make an AI that could help patrol the world. You worked on it with Dr. Banner and something happened with Loki's staff once we recovered it that made it come alive.

Oh god. The horrifying reality makes his stomach twist so painfully that he even manages to forget that he has left Steve waiting ('A lot of people got hurt, Tony,' the words seem to burn in his head. 'And a lot of people died.') but after what feels like an eternity he finally responds. ]

We liberated a pair of kids from a HYDRA base just before that. One of them joined the team.

The other one didn't make it long enough to get the chance.

[ The thing is, for someone who has been fighting to do the right thing since he was in his late teens, it feels like his chest is suddenly hollow (more than usual) at the realization that he hurt and killed people. Even if it's technically in another universe and, if there's anything he can do to fix it or stop it before it happens, he will. ]
