It was what came out when he wanted to laugh at someone he found frustrating and confusing, apparently. A weird, tiny, growl.
"I haven't. Can't pretend beer cheese sounds appealing, though. I'm prepared to trust you that far and find out, though, if you're prepared to finish what I don't."
"Oh yeah," he guaranteed, "I'll finish what you don't. 'Carmelized onions, broccoli, and beer cheese?' I'll be attacking the hell out of that."
Then he was looking around the menu for something wanted for an entree.
"Vampire," he said, as if it was something on the menu, low but just audible enough for Steve to pick up. Yes, even with his hearing. It's almost like he's muttering to himself. "what I am is a vampire, specifically one of what's called the White Court."
Steve dropped his voice, too, just because he wasn't quite the idiot he might look like. White Court didn't tell him, anything, but he was able to put two and two together well enough. "And you feed on sex and beer cheese."
No, wait, sorry. He needed a grip. Except he pretty much had as much of one as he was going to get, overall. So. "How do you... get created?"
"Correction, Fuzzy," he said with a glance up, "I feed on beer cheese and life energy. Sex is just how I accomplish it."
He looked back down at the menu.
"And technically, we're born like this. Our Hunger doesn't come out until our first time. Yes, that kind of first time. If it's love, we never turn and stay human. If it's just sex, you end up like me."
That's all very interesting - and Steve does take it onboard and file it away. He probably has another couple of dozen questions, personal ones that he probably shouldn't ask and some that are safer to talk about.
What he actually replies to, though, what takes priority and comes first is way at the start. "...Did you just call me Fuzzy?"
That crooked little smile went straight to his gut, even while he was kind of perplexed as to what the hell it meant.
"I didn't drag you here to deny that I'm something." Thomas had disclosed, but. "But what it is, and werewolf might be pretty close as words go, it's not supernatural."
"I'd offer you a blood sample, but I don't think you'd know what to do with it and even if you did I wouldn't want you to have it, anyway. The answer, though's pretty much the same way I was scienced from being five feet nothing and asthmatic to." Well. Him.
"I could look at it," he offered helpfully, "and make 'hmm' noises."
He put the menu down at that point, though.
"And you never know if it was science or just the supernatural that someone made look like science." He tapped his chest. "I did not look like this before I changed, after all."
"I might be prepared to grant you the werewolf thing, but the other's definitely science. It was created more than once - with different outcomes." Very, very different outcomes.
He hadn't even really looked at his menu, and didn't much need to. He wasn't all that creative with his food and while he was curious about what was on offer, he was more curious about this conversation.
"It also happened a long time before the wolf thing."
He grunted in a way that said he wasn't sure he bought any of that, but didn't want to argue about it, either.
"Given all the things that exist and happen here - " He was willing to roll with it. Or appear to roll with it. Meanwhile, food was appearing, and that was another thing he was happily anticipating.
Way less conflict in that one and gave him a distraction from 'sex demon hot guy' that was all kinds of confusing for him.
"We should probably pick something to eat before we really get into werewolf discussions. Just as a note," he said before leaning back in his chair.
"Cause I have a feeling you have a lot of questions. And given that I know a few but not really like, intimately? I'm going to have to think about the answers."
"You know, I'm not sure you're the person to quiz about werewolves. You know more than I do, and I'm curious, but I'm not sure the same rules apply and if it's going to make you uncomfortable, we can just order food and make small talk."
not good small talk probably, but small talk, and all of that was accompanied by him perusing the menu and ultimately deciding to just get the fries for Thomas and a burger for himself and be done with it.
"It's a place to start. More knowledge always better than less knowledge. Besides," he picks up his water and takes a sip, "it'll give you something to actually test, if you catch my meaning."
"No talking monsters and what they do until the food's here?" He raises an eyebrow. "I mean, I'd understand if you were waiting until we were done with our food..."
He's mostly teasing but he has seen a few things about this Steve Rogers guy that-
Steve Rogers. Where has he heard that name before?
"Why, do you have a weak stomach?" It's a tease, and it's a little snarky, but it's not lacking warmth. "I figure this way we don't have to hang around longer than it takes to have dinner if you decide you don't want to, and it'll give us something else to focus on while we're talking."

"'Fuzzy.'"
Then he tipped his head to one side absently.
"And you feel like some kind of were to me. So 'Fuzzy'."
no subject
"Weres aren't a thing where I'm from."
And yet.

"And obviously they are, considering you. Unless I'm wrong. And you totally changed your tone when I mentioned it for no reason."

"Of course it is."
He reached a hand over and took the water off of the table to take a sip.
"I mean, how would you even science a werewolf?"

"Neither of those things disqualify magic, Fuzzy. Hate to break it to you. Though you know, it doesn't really matter, now, does it?"
He leaned back in his seat.
"Whatever you are is whatever you are."
