Yeah, Thomas gave him a very skeptical look on that apology because--

"Not exactly your fault, man. But the save is very much appreciated." He waved off the question of whether he was all right.

"And yeah, I'm good. She just fell to it way quicker than most people. I'm not even dressed up."

And he wasn't. He was wearing a pair of worn and faded jeans, a t-shirt with a Star Wars joke on it, and his hair was the picture they'd put beside an entry for 'bedhead', though on him, it definitely tended closer to 'sexhair' even if the former was more accurate than the latter.

Steve shrugged. "Not being my fault doesn't mean I don't feel bad. If nothing else I convinced you to push the button."

Not that that really answered the question and he wasn't quite sure he wanted to ask it. He actually walked a few more steps before he gave up the fight. "Fell into what?" He didn't think, some how, 'the size of my ego' was it. Not that the kid wasn't drop dead gorgeous or that Steve wasn't noticing, but his frame of reference was limited.

He looked over at Steve thoughtfully for a moment before leaning in, skimming his fingers past the other man's as he got a taste for his energy. He'd been skittish about talking about the supernatural and now he was asking questions. Well, the answer he got was helpful but... odd. No werewolf where he was from tasted quite that... strong.

He swept into the movement, trotting forward before turning back to face Steve as he crossed his arms and walked backwards.

"Fell to, not really fell into," he clarified, "and the answer is 'why I can't get a normal job.' Natural ability. A certain kind of magnetism. If you think about it, you might figure out what I'm talking about."

Steve watched the movement and he listened to the explanation but: "I probably could, but I'm not going to."

Which wasn't that he couldn't and wasn't thinking but he was staunchly refusing to make assumptions. Just flat out refusing and good luck convincing him to change his mind on that, and no, it wasn't about being tentative.

It was officially now a kind of wariness and caution.

He stopped and crossed his arms. He eyed the other man warily for a moment before breathing in, breathing out with a huff, and rolling his eyes.

"For the save: ever heard the word 'incubus' outside of a heavy metal album cover?"

The huff and eye-roll were... How could a huff and eye-roll be sexy? He was sure Tony thought both were, but neither were. They were immature and petulant.

And yet.

Well. All things considered. "Sure. So we file demons with werewolves and vampires and you are one."

Yep, he was not really taking it that in stride, but he wasn't far off it. Of course his life had been weird to start with and had recently gotten much weirder. Then there was this place.

He wiggled his hand with a bit of a face.

"Not quite right, but it's about as much as I'm going to say out on the street here. But no, I am not a demon."

He just had one inside of him. Big difference.

"I don't have a means of getting us off the street handy, so I guess we're just going to have to leave it there." He was curious, and frustrated, but he wasn't going to press.

Really didn't know what to make of the not a demon thing, though. Not a literal demon, maybe? Who knew. Sex vampire was close enough, he guessed. "Let's do that exploring you mentioned, anyway."

"Maybe explore our way to a nice hole in the wall hamburger joint and chat in a convenient corner?" Because he can see that frustration. "Or did you really want to actually legit explore?"

"I'm okay doing some exploring while we find somewhere to eat, assuming you can stop the waitresses from swooning while we're trying to have a conversation." Swooning. Either way, he's walking, and hey - he knows one place that has food, thanks to Betty.

"Hey," he pointed out, "literally, don't hate me because I'm beautiful."

He grinned, just a little before starting to trot to catch up to the walking man over here.

"Feed me because I'm hungry and want to talk. I'll follow you."

"You'd have to work a lot harder than that to make me hate you," he said, in an oddly depreciating tone. "You're not even all the way over the line to irritation, yet."

That's joking and playing a bit, though, and once he's caught up he puts his hands in his pockets and heads for that diner.

"Well, I should hope not. All I've done is made sure I'm not airing my white laundry all over the place."

He ducked a little to trot behind Steve and catch up, hopping forward to get the door to the diner door for him.

Steve shot Thomas a slightly confused look when he grabbed the door - or rather worked to get there first to grab it - but ducked through the space with an easy twist of his body and then got out of the way.

He would normally, you know, ask for the menus and a seat, be polite to the server, but with Thomas there he pretty much faded into the wall paper. ...He didn't mind.

Thomas... wasn't charming. As a matter of fact, he mostly kept his requests so short sentences and direct comments; he wasn't rude but he wasn't friendly. Never the less, the waiter was eating out of his hand by the time they were seated with menus.

"Just so you know, no, I can't turn it off." He opened the menu. "What's good here?"

Steve made an honestly pretty weird sound in the back of his throat - rough, a little like a growl and also not dissimilar to a sort.

"All right." He'd try to refrain from humping Thomas' leg. "I've only been here once. I had a burger. It was fine. Coffee's pretty decent, too, if you wanna go with that."

The growl got a frankly confused expression for just a moment before he shrugged to the universe and started looking through. His voice, when he spoke, was back to friendly.

"I'm in a fry mood, so a burger could work. Or-- oo, they do beer cheese fries. You ever had beer cheese fries? It's amazing stuff. Life changing."

It was what came out when he wanted to laugh at someone he found frustrating and confusing, apparently. A weird, tiny, growl.

"I haven't. Can't pretend beer cheese sounds appealing, though. I'm prepared to trust you that far and find out, though, if you're prepared to finish what I don't."

"Oh yeah," he guaranteed, "I'll finish what you don't. 'Carmelized onions, broccoli, and beer cheese?' I'll be attacking the hell out of that."

Then he was looking around the menu for something wanted for an entree.

"Vampire," he said, as if it was something on the menu, low but just audible enough for Steve to pick up. Yes, even with his hearing. It's almost like he's muttering to himself. "what I am is a vampire, specifically one of what's called the White Court."

Steve dropped his voice, too, just because he wasn't quite the idiot he might look like. White Court didn't tell him, anything, but he was able to put two and two together well enough. "And you feed on sex and beer cheese."

No, wait, sorry. He needed a grip. Except he pretty much had as much of one as he was going to get, overall. So. "How do you... get created?"

"Correction, Fuzzy," he said with a glance up, "I feed on beer cheese and life energy. Sex is just how I accomplish it."

He looked back down at the menu.

"And technically, we're born like this. Our Hunger doesn't come out until our first time. Yes, that kind of first time. If it's love, we never turn and stay human. If it's just sex, you end up like me."

That's all very interesting - and Steve does take it onboard and file it away. He probably has another couple of dozen questions, personal ones that he probably shouldn't ask and some that are safer to talk about.

What he actually replies to, though, what takes priority and comes first is way at the start. "...Did you just call me Fuzzy?"

He gestured around his own mouth with a tip of his chin towards Steve's beard and mustache.

"'Fuzzy.'"

Then he tipped his head to one side absently.

"And you feel like some kind of were to me. So 'Fuzzy'."

"I am overdue for a shave." He was perpetually overdue for a shave these days, actually, but at the moment a little more than usual.

"Weres aren't a thing where I'm from."

And yet.

"Scruffy works for you," he observed with a crooked little half-smile.

"And obviously they are, considering you. Unless I'm wrong. And you totally changed your tone when I mentioned it for no reason."
